What is the true cost of a lollipop?  As humans, how do we create a symbiotic relationship with nature that is long overdue?  We have incorrectly calculated the cost of a tree to be free, but nature cannot be so easily deceived.  Bitter-sweet investigates and reflects the choices we make in our daily lives.  Who becomes the sucker is up to you.

Steven Gutierrez, a candidate for the MFA in Art and Technology at The Ohio State University, has been selected as the 2006 Lancaster Arts Festival Artist in residence. His work will be on display at this year's festival with an opening on Friday, July 20th 2007 from 6pm - 10pm. Stop by the Studio B building to view his installation Bitter-sweet which investigates and reflects on the economic choices we make in our daily lives, and their resulting impact on the environment.

Mr. Gutierrez is interested in creating socially responsible art using technology to have the viewer be a more engaged and active participant. His focus is on the intersection of art, technology and the environment. He does not only want his work to cause viewers to help save the environment, but expects his sculptures to do something effective also.
